Your Driver
A Driver for the Family
Child seats are a checkbox when you book, not a phone call, and they are fitted before we arrive.
The parts that are actually hard
Not the driving. The logistics either side of it.
Child seats that are the right size and already fitted, rather than produced from a boot and wrestled into place in the sun while a two-year-old objects. Room for the pushchair and the cool box and the inflatable someone insisted on. A driver who does not mind sand.
And knowing which beach is worth the drive today, which changes with the wind and is not something a guidebook can tell you.
Child seats
Included, no charge, fitted before we arrive. Tell us the ages when you book — infant, toddler and booster are different things and bringing the wrong one wastes everybody's morning.
If you are travelling with your own seat, we will fit it or you can, whichever you prefer.
Which beach, honestly
Mullet Bay is the best all-round family swim within easy reach of the Dutch side — real sand, gentler water than most, and shade at the edges.
Maho is for the aircraft and not for small children in the water. The shore break is steep and the sand drops fast. Watch the planes, then swim somewhere else.
Orient Bay has proper facilities and beach clubs with loungers and food, which matters with children, but it is 45 minutes each way from the Dutch side. Worth it as the day rather than as a stop.
Little Bay and Great Bay are close to Philipsburg and fine, but busy on a heavy cruise-ship day.
Ask us on the morning. The answer changes.
The supermarket stop
For villa families this is the useful one — twenty minutes on the way in from the airport, while everyone is still awake, rather than a dark drive at nine in the evening. Built into the transfer at no extra cost. See villa driver.
Days that work
A beach morning and back for a nap. A full island day with a proper lunch and one museum's worth of patience. A late afternoon at Maho when the light is good and the arrivals are coming in over the fence.
We will suggest a shape and then change it when it becomes clear that today is not going to be that day. That flexibility is worth more with children than with anyone else.
Prices
Per vehicle, not per person, which matters most for families — the official island tariff charges per head above two passengers, so a family of five pays more than twice what a couple pays for the same journey. The full tariff is here.
Questions people actually ask
Do you have child seats?
Yes, at no extra charge, and they are fitted before we collect you. It is a checkbox when you book. Tell us the ages and we will bring the right ones rather than one size and some optimism.
Is Maho Beach good for young children?
Not really. The shore break is steep, the sand shelves away quickly, and the jet blast at the runway end is genuinely dangerous. It is wonderful for watching aircraft and poor for a toddler in the water. Mullet Bay is the better swim.
Which beach is calmest?
It depends on the day's wind, which is why it is worth asking rather than guessing. Broadly, the west-facing beaches are calmer than the Atlantic side. We will tell you what today looks like before you commit to the drive.
Can you take a pushchair and beach gear?
Yes — tell us what you are bringing and we will send a vehicle that fits it. A family of four with a pushchair, a cool box and three beach bags is a different vehicle from a family of four.
