The Arrival
SXM Airport to Marigot
A taxi from SXM airport to Marigot is thirty minutes to the French side's capital, with no border post on the way.
Getting there
About 30 minutes from the terminal to the French side's capital. There is no border formality on the way, just a sign at the roadside and then euros on the menus.
The Simpson Bay bridge sits on the route from the Dutch side. It lifts on a published schedule, and while it is up the road does not divert. We plan the transfer around the openings, because it is the main reason a thirty-minute drive occasionally takes fifty.
How this trip is priced
Transfers are quoted per trip, based on the official St. Maarten taxi zone rates, which depend on how many of you there are. The full official table is on the taxi rates page. Send your flight number, the date, the pickup and drop-off, the number of guests and the number of suitcases, and the quote comes back after that. Payment is in cash, in US dollars only.
Is it worth it?
The drive is the easy part of Marigot. The destination is where the time goes.
Marigot is a town you stay in or pass through. If you are staying in it, the airport is the smallest part of your logistics and a booked driver removes it. If you are only passing through, on the way to the ferry or to somewhere further up the coast, say so and we will tell you whether Marigot is the sensible place to stop or the sensible place to skip.
What is in Marigot
The capital of the French side, on a bay facing Anguilla, with a harbour, a waterfront market, boutiques in the streets behind and the ruins of Fort Louis on the hill above. It is quieter and smaller-scale than Philipsburg and much more pleasant to walk around, with considerably better food.
The market is the reason to time your visit: much bigger on its main mornings than the rest of the week. The Marigot guide has the long version, and the ferry page covers the crossing to Anguilla.
Child seats and luggage
Child seats are available, and you request them when you book. Luggage depends on the seating: with every seat in place the van takes carry-on and light luggage only. For full luggage we take up to six guests, with the back row removed to make room for 10 to 15 large suitcases, so give us the number of guests and the number of suitcases when you book and the van is set up in advance. Seven to eleven guests with full luggage does not fit one van, and is quoted on request.
Booking this transfer
Each transfer is quoted per trip and agreed before you book. Send your flight number, the number of guests, the number of suitcases and where you are staying through the booking form, or on WhatsApp, and we will come back with the quote.
