The Arrival
Marina and Yacht Transfers
Ten minutes from the airport to Simpson Bay Marina, and the bridge decides everything after that.
Which marina
The Simpson Bay lagoon holds most of it, and the names get used loosely.
Simpson Bay Marina is on the Dutch side of the lagoon, about 10 minutes from the airport. Isle de Sol sits nearby and takes the larger yachts. Princess Port de Plaisance is across on the Cole Bay side. Porto Cupecoy is on the French side of the lagoon, reached differently.
Oyster Pond is not on the lagoon at all — it is on the east coast, 40 minutes away, and confusing it with the others costs half a morning.
If you are meeting a boat and are not certain which, send us the yacht name and we will work it out before you land rather than after.
The bridge
Everything on the lagoon is governed by the Simpson Bay bridge, which opens on a schedule for vessels and closes the road while it does.
For a road transfer it means a delay of fifteen or twenty minutes if you hit it wrong. We plan around the published times. It is the single most common reason a ten-minute journey here takes half an hour.
Crew changes
Crew do not travel on holiday schedules. Flights arrive late at night, boats leave on the tide, and handovers happen at hours when a taxi rank is not a reliable plan.
We book these the way they need to be booked: named driver, confirmed the day before, and someone who answers the phone at five in the morning because that is when the flight got in.
Guest arrivals
For owners and guests joining a boat, the transfer is the first ten minutes of the trip and it sets the tone. Met inside the terminal, bags handled, cold water in the car, and delivered to the right dock rather than the marina gate.
Say if there is a tender meeting you and where, and we will get you to that pontoon rather than to the general area.
Provisioning
We will do a supermarket or chandlery run as part of a transfer or on its own. Tell us the volume — there is a real difference between a case of wine and a week of food for twelve, and it decides which vehicle comes.
Invoicing
Marina and corporate work is invoiced rather than settled per journey. See corporate chauffeur for how that runs.
Questions people actually ask
How far is Simpson Bay Marina from the airport?
About 10 minutes on a clear road. It is one of the closest destinations to SXM, which is part of why so much of the Caribbean yachting season is based here.
Can you do crew changes at odd hours?
Yes. Crew move on flight times and tide times rather than office hours, and a five in the morning pickup is a normal booking rather than a favour.
Can you carry provisions?
Within reason and depending on the vehicle. Tell us what you are moving and we will send something that fits rather than discover the problem in a supermarket car park.
Which marina am I actually going to?
Worth checking before you fly. Simpson Bay Marina, Isle de Sol and Princess Port de Plaisance are all on the lagoon but on different sides of it, and Oyster Pond is a 40-minute drive away on the other side of the island.
