SXM Airport to Maho Beach

Getting there

About 10 minutes from the terminal. Maho sits at the western end of the island, directly under the approach to the runway.

The Simpson Bay bridge is on the main route between the airport, Simpson Bay, Maho and Cupecoy, and it can add fifteen to twenty minutes while it is open. We plan around the published openings.

How this trip is priced

Transfers are quoted per trip, based on the official St. Maarten taxi zone rates, which depend on how many of you there are. The full official table is on the taxi rates page. Send your flight number, the date, the pickup and drop-off, the number of guests and the number of suitcases, and the quote comes back after that. Payment is in cash, in US dollars only.

Is it worth it?

It depends on the clock. Maho is about the aircraft, and outside the arrivals bank it is an ordinary beach with a steep shore break, no shade and a lot of bars. If you are going straight from the airport to see the planes, tell us what time you land and we will say whether you will arrive in time for them.

The better plan on most days is two hours at Maho during the arrivals bank and the rest of the day somewhere with better water: Mullet Bay is ten minutes west, and Simpson Bay is ten minutes east.

What is there

Bars and restaurants along the road behind the sand, chairs and umbrellas for hire, and public toilets at the bar end. There is no shade on the beach itself. The free car park fills by mid-morning in season, which is why many people are dropped off and collected instead.

At the runway end there is a fence, and behind it aircraft run up their engines before departure. Stand well clear of anything taking off. The Maho Beach guide covers the rest.

Child seats and luggage

Child seats are available, and you request them when you book. Luggage depends on the seating: with every seat in place the van takes carry-on and light luggage only. For full luggage we take up to six guests, with the back row removed to make room for 10 to 15 large suitcases, so give us the number of guests and the number of suitcases when you book and the van is set up in advance. Seven to eleven guests with full luggage does not fit one van, and is quoted on request.
